OIT concluded a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on academic and student exchange with the Technical University of Madrid (Universidad Polit?cnica de Madrid, UPM) on June 1, 2015.
UPM is a public university started in 1971 after merging two technical colleges of engineering and architecture established in the 18th century. It is renowned as one of the top-ranked universities in Spain. It has produced leading architects in Spain such as Jos? Rafael Moneo Vall?s (Pritzker Architecture Prize winner in 1996) and Alberto Campo Baeza (Mies van der Rohe Award winner in 2012), and it is one of the most influential universities in the world, especially in the field of architecture.
In UPM, the signing ceremony was held in a harmonious atmosphere attended by Rector Dr. Carlos Conde L?zaro and the other seven from UMP, and President Dr. Masataka Inoue, Dr. Mitsuaki Yano, and Dr. Yukimasa Miyagishi from OIT.
In the meeting UPM showed a strong interest in the Faculty of Robotics & Design (tentative) which will be established in the OIT Umeda Campus. The participants exchanged their views on the new campus which will serve as a hub of promoting collaborative researches to prepare for an aged society and education utilizing a telepresence technology.
Concluding this MoU will be a starting point for a wide range of exchange activities by researcher and students of both universities. Valuable results are anticipated especially in the field of architecture and design.
