On November 10, 10 officials from Spain’s Universidad Polit?cnica de Madrid (UPM), with whom we have had an international partnership since 2015, visited Osaka Institute of Technology (OIT) to gain a deeper understanding of both universities and to discuss ways to promote future collaborations.

The UPM delegation included Xavier Ferre, Rector's Delegate for Asia, Alberto Pieltain, Vice-dean for internationalization in School of Architecture, Isabel Carrillo, Dean of School of Engineering and Industrial Design, Piera Maresca, Vice-dean of International Affairs in School of Engineering and Industrial Design, Antonio Crucelaegui, Dean of School of Naval Engineers, Jes?s Fraile, Vice-dean for International Relations and Corporate Partnership for School of Telecommunication Engineering, Agust?n Yag?e, Dean of School of Computer Systems Engineering, David P?rez del Rey, Vice Dean of International Affairs in School of Computer Science, Araceli Martin, Delegate of International Relationships in School of Civil Engineering, and Susana Toledano, Head of the International Relations Office of Vice Rectorate for Internationalization.

At the Omiya Campus, after an exchange of business cards, Vice President Emiko Ashitaka gave an opening address, followed by presentations by both universities. The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and professors from each department participated in a lively exchange of opinions. During the tour of the Omiya Campus, the participants visited the Monolab Annex, the Architecture Design Studio, the Smart Lab, the Mech. Lab, the E-Lab, and the civil engineering lab.

The tour was followed by a microbus ride to the Umeda Campus, where they visited the education and research facilities of the Faculty of Robotics and Design, the Innovation Lab, the Robotics & Design Center, the Library and Learning Commons, and auditorium. A lunch meeting was held on the 21st floor of the OIT Umeda Tower, where the faculty members of the Umeda Campus also participated, and the two sides deepened their friendship in a friendly atmosphere, with high expectations for the development of future collaborations.

This visit provided a valuable opportunity for both universities to share new initiatives and strategies and to explore possibilities for academic and research collaborations. It is expected that cooperation in various fields, such as joint research, study abroad in research, and student exchange, will further strengthen the international collaboration between the two universities.
