ニュース Politecnico di Torino Representatives Visit OIT Umeda Campus to Explore Academic Collaboration

トピックス English
On the afternoon of Friday, November 15, 2024, representatives from the prestigious Politecnico di Torino (PoliTO), one of Italy's leading technical universities, visited Osaka Institute of Technology’s (OIT) Umeda Campus.

In 2023, PoliTO became the first Italian university to establish a Japan-based office, the PoliTO JapanHub, in Kyoto. This visit was part of their ongoing efforts to strengthen partnerships with Japanese universities and private companies. The delegation included Professor Giuseppe Quaglia (Director of the JapanHub and Professor of Automatic Machines Mechanics) and Ms. Marina Rabagliati (PROSIQ Strategic International Affairs Department). They traveled to Japan to visit OIT and other universities, seeking opportunities for future collaboration.

Visit Highlights
The visit featured the following key activities:
?University Overview: Starting at 2:30 PM, the delegation received an introduction to OIT and the Faculty of Robotics and Design. The session included discussions on educational policies, student exchange programs, and research initiatives, followed by an engaging Q&A session.
?Facility Tours: The delegation toured several research areas, including the Department of Robotics on the 15th floor and the Department of System Design on the 14th floor. On the 9th floor, they visited the Innovation Lab, where they observed machine tools and student robotics projects. The tour continued to the Robotics & Design Center (RDC) on the 8th floor, where PoliTO representatives shared their robotics research, and introduced their university and JapanHub’s activities.
?Exhibition Area Visit: The delegation also visited the Department of Design and Architecture’s exhibition and training areas on the 20th floor and viewed architecture students’ projects displayed in the 1st-floor gallery. They expressed keen interest in the students' creative work.
The visit concluded after a discussion on potential future collaborations, ending just after 5:00 PM.

Future Prospects
While PoliTO and OIT have yet to establish a formal partnership agreement, this visit highlighted mutual interests in collaboration within education and research fields. They showed enthusiasm for initiatives such as student exchange programs, international workshops, and joint seminars. The potential for a future partnership agreement marks a promising step toward strengthening ties between the two institutions.
