For a long time, we were unable to accept exchange students due to border control measures for COVID-19, but with the resumption of international traffic, we accepted exchange students this spring for the first time in two years. The two students, Kevin Wilkinson from Technical University of Munich, Germany, and Junjae Lee from Daejeon University, Korea, will stay about four months in the Bridge Engineering Laboratory of the Department of Civil Engineering and Urban Design (main advisor: Prof. Osamu Ohyama) and take courses of their interest.
Mr. Wilkinson, the first student from Technical University of Munich, came to OIT with dreams of becoming a bridge design engineer. He is eager to absorb knowledge while paying attention to the differences between German and Japanese disasters, he said. Mr. Lee is also majoring in civil engineering at Daejeon University and plans to study design and maintenance of structures that are resistant to earthquake and other disasters, with a focus on disaster prevention.
